Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is coaching?  Is coaching therapy?
No!  Coaching is NOT therapy.  The role of a coach is not to give advice or to be viewed as the expert in your relationship.  Your coach does not see your relationship in need of "fixing." Rather, at "I DO" Relationship Coaching, your coach will help you to identify the strength and growth areas in your relationship and will assist you in strengthening or developing skills that will give you the relationship that you dream to have!

2.  What if I am currently in a serious dating relationship but we are not engaged?  Would we benefit from coaching?
Yes!  You would receive the same coaching and tools that couples who are preparing for marriage receive.  Many dating couples choose this route for the purpose taking their relationship to a new level and exploring whether or not they are ready to make a marriage commitment.

3.  What if I have been married before? Do you work differently with couples who are at different stages of life?
Yes!  Your coach will be a certified facilitator of PREPARE/ENRICH.  All of us are at different places in life and your coach will identify and administer the relationship inventory that is unique to your situation.  All relationship inventories (PREPARE/ENRICH) are research based and have been administered to nearly one million couples over the course of  20years.  These inventories include:
            *PREPARE  (premarital couples)
            *PREPARE-MC  (premarital couples with children)
            *PREPARE-CC  (cohabiting couples)
            *ENRICH  (married couples)
*MATE  (couples over the age of 50)
These inventories  have several features that make them especially valuable tools in discovering the strength and growth areas that are unique to you!  All relationship inventories focus on: Marriage satisfaction (or expectations), communication, conflict resolution, personality issues, idealistic distortions, sexual relationship, leisure activities, family and friends, children and parenting, role relationship, spiritual beliefs, financial  management, health issues (MATE).
Your relationship inventory will serve as a road map for your coach so that your coaching experience will be effective and unique to you!

4.  How often would we meet with a coach?  What can we expect at each coaching session?
You will meet with a coach 5 times.  During the first session you will have the opportunity to ask your coach questions about the coaching process and to receive more information about what you can expect as a result of relationship coaching.  The first session is approximately 90 minutes as the couple will complete the relationship inventory at this time.  However, the couple will not receive coaching during the first session.  The couple will have 4 additional (60 minute) sessions with a coach. At each session, the couple will review their "homework" from the previous session.  Couples will receive homework on:  Identifying strength and growth areas, assertiveness and active listening skills, conflict resolution, couple communication, couple and family goals.  Your coach will ask you powerful questions about your homework that will challenge you to go "deeper" in your relationship.  Couples are to schedule each coaching session every 7-10 days--this time is necessary for the couple to get the most out of each assignment.

5.  Where do we meet with our coach?  Can we meet by phone?
It is required that you meet with your coach in person for the first visit.  The main office for "I DO" is located in New Brighton, MN; however, you are welcome to schedule your first visit with your coach in a more neutral setting (i.e. coffee shop).  It is an option to meet via telephone with your coach for the remaining appointments but this is discouraged.

6.  Will I receive a discount on my marriage license for completing marriage prep coaching through "I DO"?
Yes!! You will receive a certificate of completion that will allow you to save $70.00 on your marriage license (in MN) at the time of purchase!

7.  What is the cost of marriage prep or marriage enrichment coaching? Do I need to buy a whole package or can I just buy a single session?
Both packages are $575.00.  Couples have the option to make 2 separate payments.  The first payment is due prior to the first session and the second payment is due within 30 days of the first payment.  This includes one 90 minute session, four 60 minute sessions and the cost of the relationship inventory.  It is required that a couple complete an entire package with your coach prior to purchasing single sessions--single sessions are $125.00.  After you have completed a coaching package, you are welcomed and encouraged to purchase individual sessions as needed.  Many couples choose to do this for a "tune-up" on their anniversary or when they have hit a wall in their relationship and they are craving something more!

Marriage Prep and Marriage Enrichment Workshops are approximately 4 hours in length and the cost is $225.00 per couple. Location for workshops may vary.  Maximum capacity for each workshop is 8-10 couples. Payment for all workshops is due 10 days prior to the date of the workshop. Early registration is encouraged.

8.  Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes! This makes for an incredible wedding or anniversary gift.  It is a gift that will make a lifelong difference.  To purchase a gift certificate, you will find a link at the bottom of each page.
